Sci-Advocacy: An Advocacy and Communication Workshop

All attendees invited to participate

Location:
Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek Hotel - Skylight Ballroom
Do you have interest in engaging in advocacy, but don't know where to begin? When it comes to science, policymakers need an answer to the “so what?” question to justify spending precious federal dollars on what can seem like an abstract research topic. All researchers should be able to explain to Congress the rational for their research funding. In this unique policy and communication workshop, you have the opportunity to do just that! Through discussion and guided exercises, you will learn about the federal budget and how it impacts you, how to effectively engage in advocacy, and how to effectively communicate with policymakers. Then each attendee will present their three-minute research “pitch” to our policy experts and Fellow participants. Receive feedback on your narrative to help you make the most clear, concise, and compelling case that explains why policymakers should support your research.
Registration required. Fee: $10

Contact Rachel Owen for more information on the workshop.  Contact Lynne Navis with registration questions.
